The Singaporean Wife
I was born in April 1991 to a Taiwanese mother and Singaporean father. My mother is from Kaohsiung, a beautiful coastal city in the Southern part of Taiwan, and a place where I visit regularly. There will always be a part of me that is Taiwanese & I am proud of that.
I was brought up in a christian family with a Chinese-speaking mother and an English-speaking father. Before getting married, my parents were also in a long distance relationship. As I follow their footsteps, I begin to learn about the joy, pain, sorrows and patience of being in a long distance relationship. It has been more than 20 years now but my mother still struggles with English. I wonder if it will be the same for me when I live in Korea one day. Will my kids laugh at my broken Korean? It has been an interesting journey to learn about his culture, language, food, lifestyle & so much more (there were also frustrating moments)!
